Here are a few of our notable collaborations with allies and partners.
LONG-TERM & REPEAT PARTNERSHIPS:
Social media campaign
As part of our annual efforts in solidarity with UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, We Can! joined hands with Xpointo Media in 2013 and 2014 to put together two different social media campaign. In 2014, we sought to attract young social media users through our Instagram campaign, “Be Yourself. Break Stereotypes.”
Community Arts Workshops: Body/Language (Creative Writing), In the Making (Ceramics), Muralling
These art workshops were conceptualised by Etiquette SG and We Can!. The workshops have to date engaged participants from HOME (Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics), St George’s Residency, DaySpring Residential, Gender Equality IS Our Culture, Melrose Home, Westwood Secondary School and The G Spot. We have also staged two readings that showcased the works produced during these sessions, to well-attended audiences at Singapore Writers Festival 2014 and the We Can! Arts Fest. To bring these workshops to your community, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ngee Ann Polytechnic
A collaboration between the school, Sexual Assault Care Centre and We Can!, 500 youth from across Singapore were surveyed on their experiences regarding sexual violence. The data analysis was conducted by Change Makers from the school, and the results were presented at a roundtable in 2015.
Singapore Polytechnic Social Innovation Project
SP collaborated with We Can! over three semesters, where three groups of students underwent Change Maker workshops and then produced models of awareness campaigns that they believed would address a range of gender-based issues, from dating and verbal violence to sexual consent to gender-neutral parenting.
University of Buffalo-SIM
Change Maker and lecturer Stella Advani has integrated Change Maker workshops into her new module on gender studies for students at UB-SIM. The end result of the collaboration are campaigns designed by the students to address a range of gender-based issues that they care about and want to bring change in.
INTERNSHIP & WORK ATTACHMENT PARTNERSHIPS:
We have developed consistent internship and work attachment partnerships with the following schools:
Bhaskar Arts Academy put 10 of their star dancers through a Change Maker workshop, following which We Can! worked closely with the dancers to produce a dance drama on dating and domestic violence. The performance watched by an audience of 400 people over two nights, and We Can! presented 20-minute talks at each performance, to raise awareness about different forms of violence and how we can create more supportive communities and cultures that prevent and put a stop to violence.
Beyond Social Services and We Can! collaborated to work with youth from poor neighbourhoods on an issue the youth were facing – bullying. Over 12 weeks, a Change Maker ambassador, Santhiya, and We Can! staff worked with the youth to produce a skit based on their experiences, which was then put up for 120 residents in that neighbourhood to watch. Around 15 youth from the neighbourhood participated, and the skit was interactive, asking for inputs from the audience.
